William Margaret Whatley was known as Aunt Willie or Granny Tanner. W. M. Whatley was the daughter of Robert Alton Whatley, Junior (his middle name is Alton, not Alston). W. M. Whatley married Sterling Tucker Tanner in 1870. W. M. received this album as a gift from her daughter (her only child), Annie Tanner Patterson, in 1901. The names which most likely be represented in this album include Ellis, Hunt, McIntosh, Patterson, Stancil, Tanner, and Whatley. The album seemed to have been organized by keeping family pictures together, but this album has passed through many hands... At left, a portrait of William Margaret Whatley and Sterling Tucker "Tuck" Tanner. |

Front cover Please email comments to megalore.org@gmail.com The front cover is light green at the top, and darker greem on the bottom. Gold leafing on the flowers, some spots rubbed off. It must have had a clasp to keep it closed at one time, but it has broken off. Only the silver loop on back cover remains. There are tape marks on the front and back covers that indicate someone taped this album closed.

Inscription on the inside of front cover The inscription, written by Annie Tanner Patterson, reads "A Birth Day Gift" "Presented to W. M. Tanner by her Daughter Annie February 28th, 1901 Her age being 46 years." |
