Instructional Objectives

During the unit, the student will attempt to demonstrate:

  • resource skills by successfully finding all of the information necessary to complete prepared questions for each activity through library books or the internet.
  • the ability to successfully schedule and allot time necessary to perform independent activities.
  • an understanding of language arts by writing several papers in a logical sequential manner with complete thoughts and correct sentence structure.
  • an understanding of vocabulary words by defining the hyperlinked words in the body of an email and sending the "pre-addressed" email. Remaining words should include the part of a sentence (verb, adverb, adjective, etc.) and a brief definition as it relates to this story.

After completing this unit, the student will attempt to

  • correctly relate, verbally or written, at least one method of obtaining water on the fictional island in the unit.
  • correctly point out the Carribean Sea and Islands on an unlabeled world map.
  • correctly identify, through the use of pictures, at least four different clouds and explain the weather indicated by the presence of each cloud.
  • explain, verbally or in writing, the cause of ocean tides and how tides can be used for time measurement.
