Off the ship

After making the final selection of items to take, you fill your suitcase and make your way back to the upper deck. The ship is starting to sink more rapidly. You do not see any other passengers around, but you have no time to consider them. You grab the straps and attach yourself to the duffel bag and suitcase. You grab the rubber raft and start heading for a lower deck to get closer to the water surface. You go down two decks and walk to the edge of the ship. the water is just 5 inches below the deck. You climb over the railing and put the raft into the water. You are careful to hold on to the raft because this is your last chance before the ship sinks. You carefully board the raft. You are hoping the raft will withstand the ocean water and waves. You realize that you must push away from the ship or be sucked down with it when it sinks.

REFER TO THE RESOURCES PAGE OR RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, LIST YOUR SOURCE and answer the following on a lined sheet of notebook paper labeled "Sinking":

1. Can you find an experiment based on a principle that can explain why you would "be sucked down with the ship"? (Refer to the resource page, books 17 & 18) List your theory and the experiments that relate, if any, and list all sources.

2. Once you are in the raft, you look for a paddle and finally decide to use __________ (list name of item selected-must be one of the items you chose to bring) because ______________ (explain why you chose this item.)

Once you have completed these questions and handed in your paper to the teacher, continue the journey.
