Assume that you have landed on a deserted island; based on the information given thus far, draw a map of the island
including all vegetation and animal life. Refer to books 2 through 13, and 16 when preparing this map or the Internet; Include a legend with direction and scale. You may wish to use graph paper to prepare
the map. Be prepared to support your map with evidence. Consider the following questions:
1. How can you determine direction
(north, south, east, west) from the sun? (Remember, the sun does not move.)
2. How can you determine direction from the stars? Using a separate sheet of paper, write about what you would do on the island
to provide the essentials (necessary for life): food, water, shelter. REFER TO BOOKS #8, 9, 10 or the internet. Your activities on the island should reflect the priority of the essentials. Please write
the paper in narrative form (you are telling a story). The paper should be two pages long (front only, double spaced). (Hint: water is very important)
Assume that you need to build a shelter; describe the shelter, materials used and
reason for design on a separate sheet of paper (double spaced). Refer to the books #3, 8, 9, 10 or the Internet for materials available in this area of the world and information on scale. Provide a scale
sketch of your shelter, including dimensions. Use graph paper, if desired; List the scale used on your sketch. As always, list your source(s). Assume that your food supplies are running low; Describe,
on a separate sheet of paper labeled "Food" how you would supplement your food supply. Be sure to include the process for obtaining drinking water (there is no fresh water on the island). Refer to books 4
through 17 or the Internet (2 pages, double spaced). List your source(s).
For extra credit, watch the re-runs of Gilligan's Island. Each episode is worth
2 points; Write one-two sentences about the show on a separate piece of paper and label it: "Gilligan's Island".
